Biography

Iain has been assembling his record collection for as long as he can remember; his early taste was for 80’s electro pop a sound that still influences his musical style. His musical taste was later shaped by more rocky guitar based artists and later still by the “madchester” scene. Throughout his childhood he was an avid producer of mix tapes, becoming skilled at making precise edits on his tape machine so the tracks flowed into each other exactly.

It wasn’t until 1992 and his growing love of acid house and rave that he bought his first set of decks and set about learning to mix. He was soon picking up gigs at local bars and clubs. This continued after he relocated to Leeds in 1996 with occasional gigs around the city playing his own brand of disco driven funky house with an edge from which there has been a gradual evolution into his current sound.

Today Iain’s DJ style is punky, eclectic and sometimes anarchic. Genres are something that Iain hates to be restricted by; his sets are more than likely to feature a selection of cool old tracks, sometimes even pop and bootleg, alongside the latest upfront electro gem which he has relentlessly hunted down. They will also now feature some of his own productions, re-edits and remixes. Iain is more interested in keeping the emphasis on fun whilst retaining the edge and without getting cheesy. You won’t find him rolling out the same tracks as everyone else, but he will fill any dance floor.

Iain, production and remix work is a fairly recent development he started learning to make his own tracks in 2003, initially concentrating on mash ups, and simple re-edits and remixes and re-edits of tracks to fit into his DJ sets. Some of these early guerilla remixes went down well, in fact there are still dodgy Japanese releases out there if you look hard enough (if you find ever find out who pressed them, make sure you let Iain know!) . From there Iain has begun to develop his own style which he is translating into original productions. His productions & remixes have been getting positive feedback from a wide range of DJs and some have received radio airplay worldwide, most notably his remix of Everyday I love you less and less by the Kaiser Chiefs, which the band themselves are reputed to have been seen pogoing along to.

Iain has recently held DJ residencies at Polaroid and AreYouLookingAtMe in Leeds as well as taking AreYouLookingAtMe to Ibiza in 2005 for some parties. He has also recently played at Tribal Sessions @ Sankeys Soap – Manchester. Upcoming gigs include the Eastern Haze festival and a brand new weekly residency at Electrocute in Leeds in July.
